Open University Subotica  is one of the leaders in the field of informal education and culture in Serbia. It strives at advancing the quality of life for the people, through promoting and implementing « new literacy» and innovative programme contents  aimed at developing the society. It was founded in 1953, as a Wrokers’ University; from the very beginning it comprised  all other institutions and programmes of adult education in the municipality, region and the country. Results were visible shortly, owing to permanent investments  in teaching technology, teaching programmes and human resources. In 1992, this institution was transformed to  Open University, in view of worldwide trends and people’s needs regarding adult education.
